Recently Dr. Oz, along with his co-hort in the newspaper Dr. Roizen, wrote an article about the subject of how your brain and pain relief interact on such an intricate basis. I read the information with interest and then realized that while it was good and enlightening, the authors offered us nothing new on this topic of pain relief. That’s because this topic has been discussed for years.
FACT: we all have the capability of subverting the level of pain that we feel if we do not let it affect and stress us to the point of over-arousal. Their terms for this “anti” stress remedy is easy meditation, but it includes the principles of mindfulness, meditation, guided imagery and progressive muscle relaxation. Dr. Jon Kabat Zinn has been teaching all of these principles for quite a few years, but mindfulness the most.
I encourage you to put the term “mindfulness” into the search engine on this website and research what I’ve written here about the topic on the Health Matters Show.
Also, check out…
You can find a recent Get Well Health post on this topic, Your Mind Your Health with this link. Several of the great books of Dr. Jon Kabat Zinn are listed there. I and others consider these to be great works on this subject. You can buy them at a discount through the links provided.
Whether it’s Dr. Oz or Dr. Jon Kabat Zinn instructing you, it’s very possible to learn and apply these “pain relief” principles. Your brain is like a sponge and so willing to help you out. Use it, stretch it and challenge it daily. Help your brain grow and become a better ally in your struggle with pain relief.
Have a great and wonderful week. Read a book… then practice mindfulness!
