Getting Your Physical Body “Well”?

by Cinda Crawford on June 29, 2010

in General,Getting Well,What do you do if you're really sick?

Few of us enjoy a physical body that works 100% well. (*Really none of us do, but some people enjoy better health than others and rank a bit closer to that elusive 100th percentile benchmark.)

If you have Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or some other chronic illness, one of the largest and most important parts of your personal health equation that you probably would like to improve is your physical body. You want to get well.

“You live with your physical body day in and day out. When it’s not working properly for a long time, your suffering can be immense and intense.”

SUGGESTION OF SOMETHING YOU CAN DO FOR YOURSELF: (Hint: print off this blog post. Consider which parts of your physical body you’d like to be functioning at a higher, more efficient and more healthful level.

  • muscles, fascia, tendons?
  • joints and connective tissue?
  • bones, cartilage?
  • blood and circulation?
  • breathing and lungs?
  • immune system and ability to fight off disease?
  • digestion and elimination?
  • brain, mental cognition and memory?
  • sleeping functionality?
  • other organs or organ systems?

To the left of each bullet point, mark which ones apply to you. On another sheet of paper, pick one of the categories you marked and write down exactly what you think is wrong or sub-par about this area of your body. If you don’t know what’s wrong, then describe how the problem “feels” or “acts like” in your body.

Every day this week, resolve to work on one section of your list. Write down one small thing that you can do about it today and how you’ll work to turn around this problem into being a positive part of your health for tomorrow and in the future. When you’re finished, put all your sheets in a small notebook and go mark your calendar to check on your results several times a week. Talk with your goals with your physician and ask for his or her input. Maybe you can get additional ideas.

Resolving to make changes only works
if you remember to work your plans.

Example: weak bones may mean you need more sunshine, more Vitamin D, more calcium and more exercise when possible. -or- Tight, tense muscles may need to be stretched several times daily or used gently during warm water pool therapy.

Few of us may be able to go to a Hollywood spa for regular pampering, but never forget that you are in charge of your physical body and can exert a tremendous amount of influence on your long term health. You’ll live in it the rest of your life.

I’m headed to the pool! :-) Have a great day.
