Millions of people ask the question, “What Causes or Triggers Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?” With millions of people wanting to know, surely there are some answers out there. If you read the better scientific research material, doctors and scientists believe there may be multiple triggers that take an individual down the path of this kind of sickness, but not one individual cause. How do we reconcile this?
Cause is a word that immediately makes us think of the whole process: cause and result. Example: a susceptible person runs into the chicken pox virus and comes down with chicken pox. A person has a bad fall down stairs and ends up with a broken leg. Now, that’s cause and result. If and until a cause (or causes) for the illnesses are located, they do not exist for all practical purposes. Many people believe they never will.
Trigger is a much more mysterious word, particularly when the subject you’re talking about is Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Imagine gathering 100 sufferers in the same room and ask them all to name a “cause” of their illness. Few people would claim to know what caused them to be so ill (because there are no known causes). But if you asked the question a different way and inquired about what they think “triggered” their illness, a lot of people could come up with something.
These are all hot button triggers. In looking at how these conditions manifest less-than-perfect health in different people in different ways, it’s no wonder that with Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, people exhibit different signs, and symptoms– one person to the next! It’s also why scientists are not coming up with one cause.
I believe that there is no one cause.
So if you’re waiting for the magic answer to come along, telling you the one cause of why you got to ill and what you should do about it, you may be waiting a long time… maybe forever. The key to conquering these illnesses is to address the illness triggers, work on healing the damage done to you by them and then readjust your lifestyle so that you won’t be as susceptible to them in the future.
