So many people think that the subject of Fibromyalgia Pain Relief means that a person is only looking for information on or access to strong prescription drugs. Either:

1) Prescription drugs designed to directly relieve pain symptoms directly, e.g. Oxycontin,
2) Prescription drugs that can affect abnormal pain in a specific way, e.g. drugs that affect nerve-ending mechanisms or pain signals, like Neurontin, or
3) Prescription drugs that end up affecting Fibromyalgia pain, but neither scientists nor doctors know exactly how or why this occurs, e.g. Lyrica.

I suggest to you that neither 1, 2, or 3 is the best answer for your long term health and certainly not the whole story. There are no drugs to cure Fibromyalgia. But you’re on a roll, so don’t stop here. There are alternative ideas and philosophies that may better answer why you’re in so much pain, Fibromyalgia or otherwise, and help you go about resolving the pain. Read these wise words of Deepak Chopra from his great book, Reinventing the Body, Resurrecting The Soul, How to Create a New You:

‘…you can think of physical sensations as conscious messages from one part of yourself to another. The first reaction is the easiest and most common. There’s a sense of false security that comes from ignoring what our bodies have to say.’

If I may interpret, I believe what Dr. Chopra is alluding to is that when pain is a conscious body signal, you should not try to squelch it or ignore it or even think that your pain is occuring as a “physical” pain, therefore its cause must be purely physical in nature only. Thinking about your problem in such a simple manner often results in a person believing that all they need to do is pop a pain pill. Dr. Chopra advises not to do that. Don’t get lulled into that false sense of security.

Your body would not be hurting if there was not a darned good reason for it. That reason may not be simple. It’s your job to respect your pain, not simply to wish it away. Work to find out the actual cause of why you’re hurting. *You don’t want to ignore your pain either. All those who ignore life lessons are doomed to repeat them.

As human beings and creations of God, we are whole units composed of important parts that work together to make us whole: mind, body and spirit. Example: God didn’t leave off your spirit knowing that you would be okay without it. You are a spiritual creature living in a physical body! He doesn’t want you to ignore spirit because you’re too busy in life or you’re too much in pain. Quite the opposite. He wants you to return to spirit.

Too often we chronically ill people virtually ignore the other parts of us because it’s our body that is crying foul and screaming, “Notice me! Do something about me, Me, ME!!!” (The subtle, unspoken threat is, if you don’t notice and attend to my needs right now, I’ll make you pay dearly.)

Fibromyalgia pain feels threatening and scary. It feels like the enemy and you want to hide in the corner until it goes away.

Fibromyalgia Pain:

1) Is an important health issue,
2) Deserves both our respect and attention,
3) Is pointing out that something has gone wrong in the body. The cause is not limited to being solely physical in nature. Causes can also orginiate from mind and spirit sources, too.

You and I cannot nor should not expect our bodies to become totally healthy if there are other more subtle, yet equally important problems that need correcting. And if those problems causing the Fibromyalgia pain did not originate in the body unit, then they started in the mind (e.g. mental or emotional) or the spirit (e.g. spiritual). Those are the three parts of us that make us who we are and keep up balanced like a three-legged stool.

If you don’t have a copy of the book by Deepak Chopra, I recommend you get one right away. It’s truly wonderful and I’ll be talking about it here and in the Learn How to Heal Yourself course quite a bit:

*TIP: the types of problems mentioned today are created by dysfunctional, negative and health-harming energy. We all can have forms of this energy within us. I’ll have much more to say about these ideas tomorrow and Friday on the Health Matters Show. I hope that you’ll be here!
