As much work as everyone put into getting the word out about Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Awareness Day (and week), the hard work is done in the trenches by brave volunteers and very tired, painful folks. (Make that pain-filled folks.)
You’ll find these same people and almost every other person who suffers with Fibro and CFS in one of three situations: (continued)
(Audio 9 min 56 secs)
- Working a full time job, but often suffering greatly in many aspects of their life
- Working at a paying job for only a few hours a week and still trying to hang on financially
- Or- They may not be capable of working at all.
Some of the non-workers have support via disability checks (private and/or Social Security or Supplemental Security Income); some from family and friends. Either way, there’s usually never enough to go around and in these tough economic times, that’s very understandable.
For the most part, that means there’s a small pool of resources for getting the word out about any worthwhile project and for contributing to such causes as research and all the other important objectives we must meet if Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are too taken seriously and finally conquered.
And that is the case with the first ever, Help Yourself – Give Back Teleseminar, that we hosted Monday, May 11th. Now don’t get me wrong, there was a good turnout of people. Dr. Frieda Eng did a great job, making valuable points and answering questions from the audience.
BUT… there weren’t many contributions.
Next year we’ll plan to get started on this earlier in the year. Maybe times will be better in 2010. Maybe we’ll all have a few more dollars in our pockets.
Note: Now, if you didn’t get to attend the teleseminar or hear the audio, it’s not too late! Go to the page listed above and feel free to ask for your copy. Afterwards, you can still give through the Just Give network to the Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome charity/ non-profit of your choice.
(When you get to the website, put in ‘Cinda’ first name, ‘Crawford’ last name and the list of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome charities and non-profits will come up automatically. Please know that I do not make any money from this at all. Only Just Give takes a small portion of your contribution. They send the rest on to your chosen charity. I simply created the registry, providing a mechanism to make this happen
)
Okay, that’s it for today. It’s been fun!
Thanks, Cinda Crawford
