Are Allergies Bothering You? What Can You Do to Protect Yourself?

by Cinda Crawford on November 20, 2009

in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Health Matters Shows, Resources, What do you do if you're really sick?

tissue-boxRight now people suffering with allergies are experiencing rapid temperature and weather changes: hot, cold, dry, wet, warm, chilly. Rinse and repeat, until you’re holding your head and running to hide in the corner for some privacy to blow your nose for the 25th time today.

You’re probably being bombarded by the dust from the falling leaves and the last of the fall allergen boogie men, ragweed. If you live somewhere that has already had two good frosts, the damage ragweed is causing you may be over with until next spring. However, if fall winds kick up the ragweed pollen into the air, pollen may continue to aggravate your respiratory system and cause your body to produce more allergy symptoms. (And then there’s the dust from the leaves themselves. Dust particles alone cause a lot of allergies…. .)

Regardless of which elements are present, you may still be suffering with allergies now that fall is ending and the winter season is approaching. Your misery could be significant.

Each of us is different. The dust left over from the year before’s holiday ornaments used to bother my mother when she got them out of storage to decorate the tree. It was pretty much a given… Mom would be sick at Christmas time.

So whether your problems stem from dust, pollen allergies, changing temperatures or any of the bacterial or viral infections going around, you, dear one, can be in for lots of sniffling, sneezing, coughing and general achiness if this is even a normal fall and winter season.

So what does that mean to you if you’re already suffering with a chronic health problem like Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

Well for starters, you know that you have to take really good care of yourself or you risk feeling worse and more symptomatic. (I’ll go into this subject about allergies more in depth next week. Today since this is a Friday edition of the Health Matters Show, let’s concentrate solely on figuring out what kind of help is available for you right now.)

Number 1: Arriving at Gate 9 are the biblical essential oils straight from the orient.

Essential oils have been the source of mankind’s greatest medicines since they were first discovered thousands of years ago. We continue to study them because essential oils and plant extracts are made from the most powerful part of plants. They’re used medicinally to kill bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Each year millions of dollars are spent searching for such therapeautic plant substances in jungle foilage, river bottoms, forests, and many of the vast wildernesses of the world by our universities.

Essential oils are aromatic volatile liquids distilled from shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds.

Now volatile here doesn’t mean harmful; in this case I think you could think of the word active- very active in a good way. They can cause positive changes in the body such as:

a) Some essential oils have the ability to work as hormones that helps them bring balance to many physiciological systems of the human body.

b) Essential oils have a chemical structure that is similar to that found in our cells and tissues. That enables these health products to be easily identified and accepted by the human body.

c) Some quality oils can decrease the thickness of the blood thereby increasing circulation and immune function. (Note to everyone interested in Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: supporting the immune system is what you want! You can find this quality in Young Living Essential Oil by the name of clove. I’ve talked about it before.)

d) When essential oils are diffused into the air, they can increase atmospheric oxygen and provide negative ions, which inhibits bacterial growth. Because of the ionizing action, they have the potential to break down potentially harmful chemicals, too, and render then nontoxic thereby helping my immune function. (Note to self: put another bottle of Lemon oil on my next order. I diffuse Lemon oil in my house during the winter for these purposes when the house is a bit more closed up. If you want to try diffusing these oils, go to my Young Living webpage and look for the diffusers available.)

Well, I could say more about the marvelous qualities of essential oils, especially about the high quality, therapeutic grade ones manufactured by Young Living, but I’ll save it for another day. Let’s move on… .

Number 2: Arriving at Gate 10 is our next line of available health products that we can investigate and use. I’m talking about vitamins, nutraceuticals, and herbs.

Now, Dear One, I resist sponsoring many products because you can find good quality ones on your own. However, I do have some powerful ideas for you. I encourage you to start putting the following into your arsenal of health tools. I use them religiously and know of their incredible value to my health.

1) For multi-vitamins, try to find the whole food versions. Whole food vitamins are made directly from foods, not synthesized from chemicals. There is hardly anything any better that you can do for yourself than taking good quality, whole food vitamins. I like True Source or Core Supplements by Young Living. (To this fine start, you can also add Mineral Essence, MultiGreens, Ningxia Red, and Super C. They will round out your first line of protection. Find these all on my Young Living website.

2) For other helpful products that promote health and bolster the immune system, you know I like the essential oils, such as Clove, Thyme, Oregano, and Lemon; I depend on them. For relieving allergic-type or sinus-related stuffiness I like the Breathe Again Roll-On blend and Thieves for all-round protection. Oh, wonderful Thieves! Also, there are choices like ImmuPro if you want to play defense and Life-5 for offense. (Life-5 is the most effective acidophilus-type product I’ve ever found because the good bacteria sticks to your gut!)

The best thing you can do for yourself is work at getting healthy from all sides.

And my last admonition and encouragement: Don’t settle for feeling terrible. Don’t feel as if you have to be stuck with a boat-load of symptoms. Your only choices are not prescription drugs or nothing. There is a lot you can do for yourself to feel better and get prepared for winter. By spring… who knows? You could be greatly improved and feeling ready to catch a good case of spring fever… imagine the ambition and excitement you’ll feel after such a change!

If you have any questions, email me. I’m happy to help you more in depth with your healing goals.
