cartoonwomanholdingsideofheadA friend of mine passed along the following reference website, http://www.reliefinsite.com, where someone suffering in pain from Fibro, CFS or some other source can measure his or her personal pain index online.

That function seems appealing and useful. I can see how it would be help many people, including you if you suffer with any type of chronic pain.

ReliefInsite: provides online tools to assist individuals with recording various aspects of their pain including pain location, duration, characteristics, symptoms etc. (These tools)… include a Pain Diary which you may use to record information about the pain you experience, and other relevant information.

There also appears to be a facility for sharing your information and progress with a doctor, nurse, therapist, family member or friend, if you choose. That could be helpful because not all people with chronic pain (e.g. for our purposes here, Fibro or CFS patients), always have the ears and hearts of the people treating them. It’s not uncommon for them to be doubted and subjected to disbelief and ridicule. Horrors!

The “It’s All In Your Head” Syndrome!

Let’s hope no one insinuates that your chronic pain is all in your head, but if they do, such a mechanism as this might add some weight to your word alone the next time you discuss the problem. In fact, any type of personal pain diary adds a genuine quality because it’s written down or printed. That enables you to use it as a semi-proof tool, thereby helping you to talk to medical professionals, friends and family members.

Special Note: Also anything written down can (and should) be incorporated into your medical files, thus aiding you if an insurance or disability claim dispute arises!

Check this website out and let me know what you think. My first glance was a positive thumbs up!

The Gratitude Dance Video!

by Cinda Crawford on March 29, 2009

in General, Spiritual Blessings, Videos

One of my Facebook friends recently sent me an awesome video about something called, “The Gratitude Dance.” As the video began, I smiled at the comical young men who encouraged me to be grateful. Now at it’s ending, I know that I am grateful and I’m making a list of the reasons why.

I’m grateful for you and the wonderful place that you hold in my life as a viewer and participant in the Health Matters Show. You mean more to me than you will ever know.

I’m grateful for my loving family who honor me with with their love and support in all the things I do.

I’m grateful for my health that God chose to restore after such a long period of being so sick with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. (Over 15 years!)

And I’m glad to be alive. I hope you enjoy this video, take time to decide what you’re grateful for and get up out of your chair to do your own version of the gratitude dance.

Who knew a silly little video could bring so many big smiles?

cinda-3-4-length-2-inch-copyAll too often, everywhere you look, there’s too darned much data and not enough useable information about Fibromyalgia (FMS or Fibro) or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) that can really help you to get well and begin living your life again. That’s not the case here at the Health Matters Show.

I run and design this website the way I believe Fibro and CFS people would want it to function so that they can receive the maximum useable benefit.

Health Matters Show: Comments & Questions

by Cinda Crawford on March 27, 2009

in Announcements

I and others love to read your comments and questions about Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome here at the Health Matters Show. Sometimes there a hoot ;-) ), sometimes they are poignant and touch my heart. Either way, every one of them is welcomed, appreciated and truly valued.

After the podcast airs at 3 pm EST today, I’m traveling for three days and will not be able to catch up with your posts easily. (The place I’m going has no Internet connection or even cell phone towers, can you believe it?)

But please, post away Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I’ll catch up with everything on Monday & we’ll get up-to-date with each other then.

Thanks so much for your participation.

I know that you want better answers and better solutions to getting well from CFS or Fibro. We all do. We want good answers & we want them now, but I can’t help but suspect that some of you missed the information about last Friday’s show. Why you missed it, I couldn’t possibly know. What is important is that you don’t let the opportunity to catch it pass you by now.

Note:

Often the solutions we seek for such huge problems as being sick with Fibro or CFS come to us via the most integrous route: through genuine, valid, heart-based people. Your soul recognizes them instantly, even before your conscious mind gets a clue. Such a person is Viviane Oberhand, the person I interviewed last week.

Whether you have Fibro or CFS, simply learning more about the illnesses need not be your ultimate goal (if that means you forsake everything else). Why is learning not that important? Because:

#1) With honesty being of paramount importance here, let’s state the most true statement about you as a person with Fibro and CFS: You Want to Heal. You Want to Get Well! Plus, you don’t have the time or energy to read tons of research reports, drug trials or public surveys until your head hurts and you’re about to fall numb to the floor.

If you don’t believe me, check out last Friday’s podcast and the journey of one woman.

Now… whether you have Fibro or CFS, simply learning more about the illnesses need not be your ultimate goal (if that means you forsake everything else). Why is learning not that important?

Because of what I call your illness outcome. It doesn’t matter that people disagree about what causes Fibro or CFS (e.g. viruses, bacteria, body abnormalities, etc.) I know… that’s a shocking statement in this world of multi-million dollar research projects, but it’s true!

Think about it.

Unless there is some obscure contagious component to these illnesses and that’s never been proven, you may not benefit from finding out that Epstein Barr virus (EBV) or Cytomegalovirus Virus (CMV) shows up in a cluster of people. Or HHV-6. Or whatever. Such information may not matter at all because they are only one early result of your illness, not what caused it.

Remember: Western medicine does not have even one answer about what causes either Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome!

#2) It, also, doesn’t matter that you get your hands on the “best” list of expensive drugs, which may or may not help your symptoms or do anything to move you along the road to better health or to heal. That’s because…

83766488Almost everyone with Fibromyalgia has heard the term shortened to Fibro. And certainly, most people with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome have seen the shortened version, CFS or CFIDS.

In many ways, that’s what the Health Matters Show (HMS) does for you with these two thorny health problems that otherwise can be lengthy and laborious to learn about. (a.k.a. too much information, not enough answers!) Here at HMS, we aim to shorten your learning and suffering curve immensely.

You won’t find meaningless fluff or trivia here. If you’re visiting this website because you want to know…

Recently AdAge not only ran a disparaging article about big pharma (the big drug corporations) for their billions of dollars of sales and success programs with Fibromyalgia drugs. They also criticized their expensive ad programs that promote sales. And they even made cracks about doubting the validity of the illness.

That went too far. Surely they wouldn’t have done that if they’d spent a month, a week or even a day in our shoes! They’d be asking for something to help them, too.

Where are these ’healing’ drugs?

Since I blogged about Gardasil, I realize more than ever what a fire storm this issue is and that the heat about it is rising rapidly around the world.

People don’t want their teenagers to be at risk for contracting Human Papillomavirus Virus (HPV), and getting cervical cancer so they’re giving them the Gardisil vaccine. But… they also don’t want to see their health harmed by the vaccine after the fact with a life-altering, chronic illness.

If you’re wanting to get involved, check out this Gardasil petition sponsored by the National Vaccine Information Center.

Then grab a copy of a Resource List that I put together with lots of great health and timely references.

This is such an important health issue on so many levels!

manholdinglowbackinpainIf you’ve heard people say that Fibromyalgia is an invisible illness, that is now old thinking. Recently, FMS Global News posted, Fibromyalgia can no longer be called the ‘invisible’ syndrome.
Dr.Eric Guedj, lead author of a study, which was reported in the November issue of The Journal of Nuclear Medicine, says…

Poem For Living: Today

by Cinda Crawford on March 15, 2009

in General, Getting Well, Living and Surviving

*My friends, just for Today, let’s all be brave. Just for today.
Then over the next 7 days, let’s be strong. These virtues decided in advance, but carried out from this day forward can mean the difference between a life well lived or one of failure. Such a character-based resolution usually pays off handsomely over a period of time.
(What about Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday or the next Sunday? Keep reading.)

71849508Today’s podcast edition of the Health Matters Show is for teenagers in the prime of young adulthood. And it’s for their parents, like Kimberley’s mother, who commented to yesterday’s post about Gardasil. She’s typical of parents who don’t want to see their children, age 8 and up, harmed with some of the same tough symptoms as those people with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) or worse, but yet they want to protect them from diseases, like Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).

When life is a big red apple out there ready for the chomping-down-on and enjoying, one doesn’t expect to be bitten by the worm inside. Today that worm is Gardasil. Don’t let it turn you into someone you, your family or your friends don’t even recognize before you check out the warnings!
