I wish each of you a joyously happy and healthy New Year!

As time marches right into 2009, we want to be sure that we’re really going places right along with it. We want to be positive. We want to succeed at our dreams.

We want to look at our future with excited and playful eyes. We want a future that we can enjoy.

Today, as I clean the house, prepare just a bit more food, and plan for the new year, I am including many great plans for the Health Matters Show and for the “things” I’ll offer you at Get Well Health, the product and services arm of everything I do regarding Fibromyalgia (FMS) and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS CFIDS and ME). :-)

It’s so incredibly wonderful to actually have something positive to offer other people. Something uplifting… something that can help them have a better, more health-filled life.

As you guessed it… helping people with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome get well is my passion.

I invite you to join me here as often as you can. Every Friday I offer an audio or video podcast. I often interview special guests who really add to our body of knowledge. Several times a week, I post to the blog and it contains some really good stuff, too!

Thanks for joining me in 2008, our very first year in existence.

I wish you well, my friends,

Cinda Crawford
Host of the Health Matters Show

Recently in an answer to a commenter’s question, I posted a resource list for finding a specialized doctor to deal with Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome at Dealing with Doctor Arrogance and Disbelief. (Click on the link and then go down to the third comment under the post to obtain the list.) Many people need such information.

Fact: You want the best information you can get about such subjects as new healing information, therapies, techniques and how-to products because you want to find something to help you get over Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome once and for all.

FMS CFS- The Day After Christmas

by Cinda Crawford on December 26, 2008

in Announcements, Getting Well

It’s not everyday that sick people- people with Fibromyalgia (FMS) or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS ME)- allow themselves to dream of having fun, laughing and smiling.

Well just for today, the day after Christmas 2008, let yourself imagine…. let yourself go. Flood your bloodstream with generous endorphins and the good bio-chemicals. They regulate your body to have less pain and will help you create more enthusiasm and energy to aid you in healing your own body in 2009.

11 Tips for Coping with Pain

by Cinda Crawford on December 23, 2008

in Fibromyalgia, Living and Surviving

(At the end of November, I offered you information on coping with pain. I’ve received a lot of requests for re-publishing the 11 Tips for Coping with Pain series, but this time you want it all at one time… so here they are in the original article that I wrote. I wish you much success in controlling your pain and much happiness during the holidays and coming new year :-) )

If you’re in pain, you may think of many words to describe your condition, but “funny” is probably not the first word that comes to mind. There’s nothing pleasant about being in pain whether its cause is a broken bone or Fibromyalgia Syndrome, a chronic pain syndrome that involves the muscles and soft tissue of the body.

Plus, dealing with long term, intractable pain takes a lot of finesse to manage and almost constant attention to symptoms, degree of relief and possible drug side effect problems. There’s nothing easy about it.

Here are some suggestions you might try: (Always consult your physician.)

Would it be wonderful to have a diagnostic marker and test to identify people with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ME)? Many people live for the day that such data is available. They are tired of never having answers and never being believed that their illness is real and deserves respect. They’re tired of CFS research not moving ahead at a faster pace toward a cure.

If you’re one of the people who would like to see such an advancement, check out this video filmed at the University of Nevada campus in November 2008.

Leave your comments here if you would like to receive more info of this type.

One Fibromyalgia blogger writes that she is bothered by this spate of bad weather we’re having. How about you? Feel free to list your symptoms, your tips for managing or ask questions.

If you suspect that what you think may have something to do with the degree and severity of your muscle, nerve and joint pain, you’re right.

Note: We’re talking specifically here about Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome pain, and pain originating from other illnesses, like Lupus, Lyme Disease symptoms, etc.

“… evidence supporting a strong association between pain catastrophizing and both pain severity and activity limitations/participation restrictions in female CFS patients who experience widespread pain was provided. Pain catastrophizing was found to predict bodily pain, even after controlling for depression.”

Most people who have either Fibromyalgia (FMS) or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS, CFIDS, ME) would not hesitate if asked the question…

“Would you rather stay sick or get well?”

The trouble with the question is that most people have no idea that there is relief from both of these illnesses and more. Don’t believe me? Watch the following video :-) )

Think back to the first days of when you began to get sick….

Did you think it would last so long? Or be so tough to overcome?

In your wildest imagination, could you fathom how hard you being sick would be on your close relationships with family and friends?

For years disbelief (i.e. involving ignorance, non-knowing) of medical conditions such as Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome has been part of our world. Some physicians remain the most skeptical of converts.

If your doctor’s attitude smacks of total doubt and a condescending attitude, know that receiving that kind of poor treatment is something you should not have to tolerate.

I enjoy working on the Health Matters Show because I get to meet interesting and talented people in the traditional and alternative health field. Friday, December 12, 2008, will be no exception.

Friday I interview a lady who has survived two battles with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and figured out “how” to get well. Yes, you read right. She healed and, not only that, she made it her mission in life to help others by becoming a noted and respected health professional. How did she do all of this, you ask? …

After all of these years, one could assume that all medical professionals (doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, etc.) would have seen enough information about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, CFS, to at least be introduced to the concept of the condition’s existence in our world. Unfortunately, that’s not true.

I still run into professionals who act like the term “CFS” is blasphemy…

If you’re like most people with Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, you can remember a time when you were healthy.

What happened to change that? And why did you become ill?
